It just depends on your system. I take it without getting drowsy. My husband takes it for cat allergies and it works for him. He doesn't get drowsy either. But benedryl really makes him drowsy. Each person is individual in how the medication can affect their allergies. It can take an hour or so to offer any protection from allergens, it's supposed to work for 24 hours. I would wash up or shower & change clothes after being around a place with cats to avoid carrying any hair or dander home to your environment or onto your furniture.
