I’m sure your doctor switched you because klonopin and xanax can be addicting and so are meant for short term use. Lopressor is not addicting but when it is time to stop it, you will have to be weaned from it so your heart can adjust to a change in function…so do not stop it suddenly on your own.

They may be chemically similar to the drugs that have worked for you with less side effects. Some doctors like to prescribe certain drugs that they have had a lot of success with.

Chances are he was afraid you were becoming addicted to the others. Lopressor is not addictive, nor does it cause detox effects when you come off. It may increase your blood pressure a slight bit, but not too bad when you come off. It can work to calm a person. Alot of drugs that are given for a medical condition have benefical effects psychiatrically. Examples are depakote and neruotin. Each of these were designed and marketed initally to take care of medical problems (and still are prescrbed for this) but have been shown to be clinicall effective in the treatment of BiPolar d/o. Good luck.
