It means that it is a drug made by a different manufacturer than the original name brand drug. Both drugs have the same active ingredient, but they have a different manufacturing process. A drug usually goes generic -meaning that other drug manufacturers can make it after it has been on the market for twenty years I think.

The generic drug name (if that’s what you mean) refers to the type of drug as opposed to the brand name. So for one of the anti-histamines say, cetrizine dihydrochloride is the generic name and Zirtek is a brand name. Or paracetamol, which is the generic name and Panadol, which is a brand name.

im not totally sure & im not going to get technical even if i could. but i think a generic drug is pretty much like a clone of a more expensive drug.. does the same thing, just cheaper but dont quote me on that

Its the cheaper drugs. For example, Advil and then there’s Safeway brand, or Mountain Dew and then there’s Mountain Breeze, which is cheaper, and also called generic.

The term, (generic) just means something is made similar to an original thing, but it doesn’t have the name brand attached to it and it is cheaper.
