What is the difference between penicillin and amoxicillin?

They are both penicillin chemial cousins, there are many different types. Amoxicillin can be taken with food and is eliminated more slowly than penicillin G. Amoxicillin also can kill gram negative bacteria better, but you would have to look up the spectum of activity for comparison.

They are both types of penicillin. Anything that you get with "cillin" at the end is a penicillin derivative.
