Bactrim, an antibacterial combination drug, is prescribed for the treatment of certain urinary tract infections, severe middle ear infections in children, long-lasting or frequently recurring bronchitis in adults that has increased in seriousness, inflammation of the intestine due to a severe bacterial infection, and travelers' diarrhea in adults. Bactrim is also prescribed for the treatment of Pneumocystis carinii pneumonia, and for prevention of this type of pneumonia in people with weakened immune systems.

Cipro is an antibiotic used to treat infections of the lower respiratory tract, the abdomen, the skin, the bones and joints, and the urinary tract, including cystitis (bladder inflammation) in women. It is also prescribed for severe sinus or bronchial infections, infectious diarrhea, typhoid fever, inhalational anthrax, infections of the prostate gland, and some sexually transmitted diseases such as gonorrhea. Additionally, some doctors prescribe Cipro for certain serious ear infections, tuberculosis, and some of the infections common in people with AIDS.

These are completely different drugs. both are antibiotics. cipro is a newer drug, stronger depends on what you are using it for.

Bactrim ds is a combo of 2 antibiotic (sulfamethoxazole and trimethoprim) Use to treat bacterial infection : UTI, bronchitis, ear infections, diarrhea (traveler's dirrahea), pneumocystis carinii pneumonia. Very important to remember..., if you are allergic to sulfa, make sure you let your doctor know about this. As with a lot of antibiotic, caution also especially if you have problems with your liver and kidneys. This type of drug can also potentiate or increase the effect of anticoagulants (coumadin)thus the increase risk for bleeding, as well as antidiabetic medication, so if you take diabetic medication, watch for low blood sugar. When taking this medication, wear sun protection because this med causes photosensitivity.

Cipro is a broad spectrum antibiotic (fluoroquinolones group) that attacks bacterial cell DNA structure thus inhibiting bacterial replication. Used as last resort if possible since it is a broad spectrum antibiotic. Use in the treatment of lower respiratory tract infections, UTIs, E-coli, skin and skin structure infections, bone and joint infections, intra-abdominal infections, and gonorrhea. Dose ranges from 250mg, 500mg, 750mg, 1000mg, They also come in XR (extended release) form.

Hope this helps.
