Cipro is generally used for lower respiratory tract infections, not upper or sinus.
Cipro would not be the first drug of choice for a sinus infection. You don’t want to build up a resistance to that antibiotic when there are others that are better for URIs. Are you sure you actually have an URI, and not just a virus? It’s not good to take antibiotics unless you really need them.

the ER gave my husband cipro for an upper respitory infection just last week.
