Unfortunately, I don’t know if there are other antipsychotics out there that don’t have weight gain as a side effect. When you have meds that are working directly on the brain, they often affect weight. Is there anyway your doctor can lower your dose of zyprexa…maybe that will stop the weight gain. One drug you might try would be geodon. I don’t know if it would cause you weight gain or not…it will depend on your body chemistry because everyone reacts differently to meds. Seroquel might be another option to try. Good luck!

I only know of two; Lamictal and Seroquel. They both have side affects and you should talk to your Dr about what would be your next best thing. Sometimes it takes time to get on the right meds.
I am not sure if Lamictal is an antipsychotic drug but they do use it for people with bi-polar. Seroquel does make you gain weight or at least it did me but the Lamictal gave me energy.

I told you before, that a parent me has the same problem, he will change to Solian,…
abilify, I don’t know about its action but see this before

I don’t recommend Risperdal, this sure you have not to take it, it is the worst.

Zyprexa is good due to its action, but it is bad due to weight gain and Cholesterol.

have you asked your Dr., from where you are-because each country has its medications?

you haven’t to change any drug directly, it is so dangerous, you have to ask your Dr. and pharmaceutic.

Hi:

Unfortunately, I ask my psych this every month. The answer is always no.

Be safe and be well

As you’ve read, you’re in good company with the weight gain. Some that weren’t mentioned that may have less weight gain for you are Prolixin (fluphenazine) and Geodon. Keep taking your medication, though. And you sure can’t go wrong by watching your consumption of sodas and fruit juices, getting regular exercise, and managing your diabetes if you’re diabetic. I hope you find something that works for you. Peace.

Geodon is the only anti-psychotic that hasn’t been associated with weight gain.

sometimes Valproates are used to treat psychosis. A real good one is the generic medicine called “Valproic Acid”. It doesn’t cause weight gain. Valproic Acid is not to be confused with Depakote or Depakene.

Seems like many other people are having similar problems with Abilify. Only 65% of over 600 people on this site rated it as helpful to them.

You can try searching for similar antipsychotics to see if there are ones with less side effects. Your doctor should have an understanding of common side effects too. Talk to them about which ones you are better able to deal with. Best of luck with everything!
