I just ate something and I forgot to take prevacid? Should I wait a couple of hours or just go ahead and take it as soon as possible?

  1. Go ahead and take the medication. Don’t take more than the recommended dose because the medication could cause other health problems. The reason they want you to take it first because the medicine has to be digested before it can start to work. By the time you are finished eating the medicine will be in your blood stream doing its thing. Just a note-some people are required to take it before bed due to acid reflux disease.

  2. Just take it ASAP. Waiting will just let the acid continue to build up. The whole reason to take it BEFORE is so that you keep the acid levels as low as possible while you are eating and continue to keep them low after eating, therefore preventing heartburn.

  3. Yes, I have done that MANY times and it still works wonders. However, my doc said if I do that, I need to take 2, which I do. Also, if severe heart burn starts, Prevacid will stop it immediately. I have woken up during the night with it starting to boil up in the back of my throat. As soon as I jumped up ran in and took two, it stopped it. Prevacid has to be one of the best meds on the market.
