What does drinking a lot while on Lexapro do?

by Admin on September 1, 2010

I take 10 mg of Lexapro and my family doctor said I can have 1 or 2 glasses of wine but no more than that. It seems to make me tired no big deal.
If I break that rule what will happen? What happens to a person who drinks like 4 glasses of wine when on Lexapro?

Alcohol is a depressant, which counter-acts the purpose of the Lexapro, the anti-depressant.

If… You want to drink say four glasses of wine, and haven’t had any alcohol that week, I’d say you’re probably okay – as long as you don’t drink after that for a while.

Physically, it won’t do anything bad to you. It probably doesn’t do the liver much good though.

Just be careful, and don’t overdo it.

This is what I found for you–

Drinking alcohol while on Lexapro is not recommended. This is because if alcohol and Lexapro are taken together, Lexapro may potentially increase the effects of the alcohol. If you choose to drink while taking Lexapro, you should drink only light-to-moderate amounts of alcohol — one drink a day for women and two drinks a day for men. Twelve ounces of beer, five ounces of wine, and one ounce of 100-proof spirits all count as one alcoholic drink. You should also make sure not to drink at the same time as you are taking your Lexapro.

ps- a friend of mine ws taking SSRI’s and continued drinking[5 a day?]. His depression became worse and he became more and more confused.
In his case he ended up in hospital because his depression was out of control and he was suicidal.
I am sure this is not your story, but this is a story of SSRI’s and alcohol.
