What are the advantages and disadvantages of Byetta?

by Admin on October 26, 2009

Might be asking my GP for this, they suggested me for it before, and just wanted to know if there’s anything horrifically wrong with it.

Help is much appreciated, especially if you mention how much dosages they started you on, etc…

;)

First the starting dosage is the same for everyone. It is about half the maintainance dosage.

The advantages are that if it isn’t needed it doesn’t work. But you will never know it. It doesn’t cause any side effects that way the way insulins do.
It helps people to lose weight or at least not gain any more weight.
You need less oral meds than you are currently taking.

Disadvantages are the violent digestive upsets it causes in some people. They take it for about 3 to 5 days and go take something else and never the Byetta again. Mostly nausea!

It came on the market just after I started taking Lantus to help control my glucose levels, so I wasn’t eligible to take it. Some friends are still taking it and seem to be doing good on it.

There are a lot of Byetta blogs all over the internet. There are also a lot of discussion groups dedicated to Byetta. You might go to Yahoo Groups and search for some of them.
