my dr prescribed glucophage for me . I was recently diagnosed with PCOS and she wants me to start taking it to treat my symptoms . I’m kind of stand offish towards the idea because its mainly used to treat diabetes type 2 which i dont have . can someone tell me if they find if this is the most effective drug to take for this disorder ?

Glucophage/metformin is used not only to treat T2 diabetes, but also to aid some people who have PCOS in weight loss and regulate metabolic syndrome (triglycerides and cholesterol levels that are wacky) that goes along with PCOS.
glucophage/metformin is for sure mainly Rx’d for diabetes type 2. But the doctors find that those with PCOS benefit from taking it as well because this disorder is closely associated with insulin resistance and YES you will benefit from taking it.
No, you don’t have diabetes, YET! And if you change your lifestyle, take this med, and lose some weight you may be able to avoid diabetes.
For some PCOS is pre diabetes! Get copies of your blood draw results and go over them line by line. And file these in a personal medical notebook. It is very very handy to refer back and see just how we are doing with our treatment and plans for the rest of our lives.
