If in doubt always call the ER nearest you and consult with the advise nurse. Don’t take a chance.

Sometimes when one is in such horrible intollarable pain thinking is not something they are so good at. If this is the case, they might not remember if they took their medication because the pain is still so severe so they take the recommended dose again. And at times all they can think to do is over medicate for immidiate relief. The conquences of the over dose is not really on their mind at the time. A medication induced comma could be what they are looking for without realizing it. So maybe it would be best if you ask your father to let you regulate his medication during those horrible painful times.

Please don’t stress yourself out. It is wonderful that you are there for you father. Please let someone help you know what is best to do for him so this does not happen again. The assurance of knowing will make life less stressful for you.

Hope he is okay—and you too!

4 is a bit much, If 2 doens’t work maybe he should go to a doctor and get a stronger medication that he doesn’t have to take so many of

Sounds like he needs to address this with his doctor because the darvocet must not be strong enough for his pain. as for vicodin 750.

Yes, might need to get him to the ER. Is he a big guy? More weight can handle more meds but 3 more pills than prescribed seems excessive.

Unless he got a physicians clearance to overdose like that, I would say yes…he is gambling his life for the pain management. Talk to an ER staffer for advice.

LOOK DUDE THIS IS SERIOUS BUISINESS!!!! I HAVE SEEN MANY PEOPLE ABUSE PILLS YOU BETTER KEEP A CLOSE CHECK ON HIM AND SEEK SOMEONE YOU CAN TRUST TI GET HIM HELP!!! asap…he could overdose…especially if he mixes with other pills or Alcohol.

Bless his heart, he must be in some really bad pain. If he is a large man, then 1 may not do much for him…but he didn’t follow the prescribed amount, so the answer is "yes" – but don’t worry about him – if anything they’ll most likely just make him sick to his stomach.

If the current dose (1 every 4 hours according to your info) is not working, it is extremely important that he talk to his doctor before increasing the dose. Overdose is extremely dangerous. It is impossible to tell from your question what would be an overdose for your dad, but he needs to talk to a doctor ASAP.
People can become addicted to pain medication as easily as they can become addicted to street drugs.

everyones tollerence is different. the recomended dosage is almost always a bit on the light side. ur dad is an adult he knows what hes doing. back pain sucks.

Yes well he obviously took too many, if it was more then the prescribed dose. Although my uncle is 6"4 and he has to double the prescribed dose for some medications such as motrin, but i’m unsure about darvocet. Perhaps you should casually ask a doctor or pharmacist, i’d hate for your father to OD so maybe you should ask to be as safe as possible.
