Hi everyone. My grandma is 102 yrs. and today I took her blood pressure very early in the morning and although the pressure is normal, her pulse rate was 37. Is it too dangerous for her age? She is on Catapres and Norvasc. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Hmm. I don’t think there is not enough reason to panic… yet. Just want to know a few things, though.
1. Is she having an abnormal Blood Pressure reading?
2. What is the dosage of Norvasc and Catapress?
You see, when you’re on these drugs, which are antihypertensives, then you tend to have low pulse rate and blood pressure readings. As long as the blood pressure remains above 80/60, she should be alright, although I am not sure because I lack some data. Try asking your health care provider. ^_^

It could be because it was so early in the morning. I’d say if her blood pressure was ok, then don’t worry but you can always call her doctor and find out. Aren’t both of those drugs for high blood pressure? My mother in law is almost 90 and takes Norvasc. Possible they shouldn’t give her both medications, I’m not sure but I’d call and find out.

37 is way too low and her medications could be causing some of the problem or, she could be having a conduction problem in her heart. You need to make a phone call to her doctor today (there is always someone on call) and talk with them about this heart rate. At 37, she will have no energy and will feel dizzy and weak. This also puts her at risk for fainting and falling and possibly breaking a hip. This heart rate is dangerous for someone who is 102. Make the call as soon as possible.
