Drug companies hold patents that are good for 12 years, so Effexor XR has several years to go before the patent expires and a generic can be put on the market.
Effexor XR is not generic yet but it should be going generic within the next year the drug company wyeth was hoping that a new drug called Pristiq would take off to take its place…the non extended release form of effexor is however.
