My sister just told me that she takes ambien during the day sometimes to take a nap. The problem is that most of the time she gets distracted by other things and doesnt end up taking a nap. She just does regular stuff around the house. Isnt this dangerous or potentially bad for her system? She doesnt drive or anything, but it still worries me. Any thoughts?

It sounds as if your sister might have an addiction to ambien, and is making excuses for why she’s taking it during the day. Ambien is not meant to be used for naps, anyway.
Ambien has been known to be dependant. She could be developing a dependancy to it. It’s very far fetched to take Ambien JUST for a nap. After all this is a sleep aid, it’s for a whole night’s sleep. 8 hours, not a two hour power nap.
You should suggest to her not to take such things for a nap, if she’s really having that much trouble sleeping and napping, she should see a doctor.
You/she should talk to the dr. and/or pharmasist. I think that this is really NOT a good idea to take Ambien during the daytime. When taking Ambien you are supposed to have at least 8 hours of non-interrupted sleep time. Her doctor would NOT be pleased to know she is taking it during the day.
The first 2 posters are correct….it’s supsoed to aid you for a FULL night’s sleep, not a nap..and you’re saying she doesn’t even end up taking the nap! Sleep aids can be addicting.
If your sister needs to nap during the day its because she is tired and taking ambien during the day is no the correct way of dealing with her sleep problem, neither is napping, she needs to get medical advice on how to take her meds and avoid making the problem worse by napping.
