I take 50 mg of Zoloft every day for major depression. I occasionally take 40 mg of Propranolol for anxiety (approx. once a week). I often feel more depressed, confused, dizzy, and basically, in a daze when I take these together.

  1. Yes propranolol and zoloft do interact with each other. The zoloft intends to enhance the bradycardic effect of the propranolol.ln other words the propranolol you were given is supposed to slow you heart rate when you have an axiety attack however when you take it with the zoloft , the zoloft reduces your heart rate even more! Thats why you feel more depressed, dizzy and confused. You can try taking your medications at different times or you can let your Dr. know and see it he can switch one of your medications to something that wont have an interaction.

  2. It’s probably not a good idea to take 2 different psychiatric meds together.

    But….best thing would be to consult the doctor who prescribed these for you. Or ask the pharmacist.

  3. I do not know how long you have been on any of the meds, but It seems to me that you might need continual a med check for awhile. The meds, dosage, or both, could be off. I am recovering from Major Depression, I was sick for 16 months, and for a while there I was seeing a therapist twice a week and my psychiatrist once a week as they wanted to keep me busy.

    I found that mood stabilizers worked best for me, I have tried the two meds you are talking about, but it was a long road to find what worked best.. hence all the visits along the way.

    Hopefully you are not just seeing the "family doctor" and you are going to a Psychiatrist, or an Psych APRN? There is a huge diff in knowledge base believe me!

    you know, the one thing that really helped my brain not feel so bad was starting yoga in October. I do not know anything about you, and at one time I would have laughed that sort of thing off… but some sort of physical activity that involves calculated breathing is very helpful.
