Is aricept the only medicine used to treat alzheimer's disease and dimensia?

i was mistaken i guess. my mother is on namenda which i thought was another name for aricept – i guess i was mistaken. we were wondering if there is a cheaper form of this drug available.

Aricept is just one of a class of drugs called cholinesterase inhibitors — others are Razadyne and Exelon. They work by increasing the effectiveness of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine, which is decreased in Altzheimer’s patients. The drugs work less well over time, but can improve the quality of life for patients in the early to middle stages of the disease.

There’s another class of drugs that affect glutamate, another neurotransmitter (mentamine is one of these)… They can be taken in addition to a cholinesterase inhibitor.
