I’m severely allergic to Sulfa drugs, any problems with avelox?

Most likely not, as it is in an entirely different class. But anyone who has allergic reactions to any antibiotic needs to double check with their doctor about starting any other type of antibiotic.

I too am allergic to sulfa and avelox was fine with me. But my cousin who is also allergic to sulfa had an allergy to avelox as well. So it is best to check with the doc and the pharmacist to be sure.

….Avelox is a quinolone, a different type of antibiotic. It should be safe to take as it is not chemically related to the sulfa drugs. Make sure you read the package insert because Avelox has a number of side effects and should only be used if the doctor thinks it’s the best for your condition.
