Breathe and do your best to relax and let’s just kind of talk.

I have a couple of questions:
What are your symptoms?
At your age the symptoms of Early Onset of YOPD (age range 21-50) and Juvenile PD (ages 2-20 years) can be clumsiness, stiffness, aches and resting tremors which are worse with stress. Often a turning in or up of the toes is another common YOPD symptom.

Was the doctor who prescribed Sinemet your neurologist or your primary care physician?
The diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease should be made by a neurologist specializing in motor disorders?

Did you and your parents provide an extensive family medical history? Juvenile PD is felt to be almost entirely genetic or hereditary, so a history would be very important. If you don’t have one, it is time to sit down with your family and make one for your future records. Include what is known about great grandparents, great aunts and uncles and so forth.

My opinion is that your doctor is trying to determine if your symptoms are levodopa responsive. Sinemet is levodopa/carbidopa which are dopaminergics that are an important PD treatment. Sinemet is used for parkinsonian symptoms as well. You can read more about its uses here:
http://www.drugs.com/pro/sinemet.html

However, this is not a common medication for the forms of Essential Tremor (ET); and for that the neurologist would probably prescribe meds such as Propranolol. Essential Tremor involves forms of action tremors. There are a few different types.
You can read more about ET here:

The site below is an excellent informational site and in the left column you can find links to other movement disorders which might also be a possibility for your condition.

The more stressed you are, the more symptoms can be aggravated. If you know Yoga exercises, this it the time to put on some relaxing music and do them.

To determine the possibility of ET, you can ask your parents if you can try the alcohol test. ET is often alcohol responsive. You should not try this without your parents’ supervision.

Sinemet (levodopa/carbidopa) is also prescribed for Restless Leg Syndrome (RLS) also called Periodic Limb Movement Disorder (PLMD), leg spasms, Dystonia(s), progressive paralysis, PSP, MSA, OCD, Depression, Anxiety, medication side effects and other conditions.

Not knowing your symptoms means that there are few suggestions that can be proposed. Not knowing your activity level also makes a difference. Not knowing other medical conditions or medications you might be taking also makes it difficult to provide suggestions.

Diagnosis is very important. If you haven’t seen a neurologist, you need to speak to your parents about getting that appointment. Your primary doctor can make the referral.
