thank you
I can take keflor(cefaclor) without any problems… is that in same drug group as well?

  1. You are roughly 4 times more likely to have a reaction to a cephalosporin than someone who does not have a penicillin allergy. I would discuss with the doctor and see if there is another alternative. A later generation cephalosporin may not be as bad as an earlier one. Or a macrolide may be even better.
Addit: If you can take Keflor, then you should be ok, but heck with your doctor first.

  2. if you have a severe allergy to penicillin or suspect you may do not take keflex. i too am allergic to penicillin and also am allergic to keflex. if someone is allergic to one they are usually allergic to the other because they are a derivitive of each other, meaning they are both penicillan basically.

  3. Keflex has some of the same ingredients as penicillin, whether or not you’ll have a reaction is hard to say. In any event, you should make your Dr. aware of your allergy and be closely monitored if you take it. Preferably in a hospital/Dr. office

  4. only take the meds if prescribed by the doctor who knows of your allergy.
