I have been taking Kariva a birth control pill for a few years now. This week I am supposed to get my period.?

I have 2 days left to get my period. There is NO chance of being pregnant. I have been sick with the flu for the past 2 days as well. This is the first time that my period has not come. Last month I skipped it… does that have anything to do with it?

I hate to be kind of vague in this answer, but, "sometimes your body does that!"

Birth control pills don’t always assure 100% that your period will come on time when you’re done taking them. I’ve had times where I didn’t get my period until the day before taking active pills again. It could be there’s some kind of hormonal activity taking place in your body causing you to not have your period.

I don’t think that skipping your period should make you not have one this go ’round, but it could be that your body isn’t sure what to do now that it’s not taking in the pill. Let it adjust and you should see "results" soon enough. It may not come until you’ve started up on active pills again.

Also, stress can cause you to have your period early or late – regardless of whether you are taking active pills or not. Being sick might have been enough stress for your body to basically say, "one thing at a time now, I’ll deal with the period later."

One missed period is not a problem, but if you don’t get one (or any breakthrough bleeding during this pill cycle) next time, you may want to call your doctor. :)
