how much benadryl can I give my dog in a 24 hour period?

by Admin on August 9, 2010

Vet said to give them a couple benadryl a day. Not sure how many to give them, he didn’t say exactly.

You really need to call the vet back to see what dose he recommended for your dog.

Typically, it will be between .5mgs and 2mgs per pound every 8-12 hours. But as you can see, that is a rather wide range, so call, your vet back to double-check.

Also, make sure that the Benadryl product you are using is ONLY Benadryl–the only active ingredient should be diphenhydramine. You don’t want to see anything else in the active ingredient panel. The products that also contain acetaminophen or decongestants are not appropriate for dogs.

Ask the vet.

And what you didn’t think to ask your vet who knows your dog better than WE ever will be able to? If your vet is open on Saturdays pick up the phone and ask them.

How much does your dog weigh?

Hi , Call and ask your vet, and read the back of the box for children and you can go by that. Never any more than what is reads for children. Never adult doses as that can poison the dog

Ask your vet.

Do not try to figure it out on your own!

My aunt overdosed one of their dogs on benadryl a couple years ago!

You do not want that to happen.
