I have a had a very sore throat/runny nose/post nasal drip/cough/ fever/swollen glands/ headache (congestion) and sore neck for 4 days now. I went to the doc yesterday and she told me I had a sinus infection and prescribed augmentin, so far I’ve taken 2 doses but don’t feel ANY better, when will I?
How long until my augmentin kicks in?

It could be that you have a virus, not a bacterial infection.
Have your doc run a simple, easy blood test and ask him to look at your C-reactive protein (CRP) levels. It measures the level of an inflammitory marker in your blood. This can tell your doc if the infection is viral or bacterial, based on how high your levels are.
If it’s viral, no amount of antibiotics are going to help. Wait 5-10 days and it will clear up on its own.
If it’s bacterial, you should get a different one. If you don’t notice marked improvement after 24 hours on it, it’s not the right one. Your doc can also culture the mucus so as to prescribe the correct antibiotic, instead of playing the guessing game, with you continuing to pay for different antibiotics.
But it’s best to know what you are up against. No sense paying for an expensive antibiotic that you don’t really need (with all those nasty side effects) if you can avoid it!
When my son gets sinus infections I tell them not to give him that because it takes too long to work. I ask for zythromax. You only take it for five days and you feel better faster. Good Luck!
Zythromax is too strong for me–it makes me sick. Augmentin may cause diarreah.
Keep taking the meds though 2 days may not be enough time.
