How do i convince my parents to get me a prescription to concerta?

by Admin on March 14, 2010

I have a serious problem paying attention in school and doing homework so i tried the drug. I felt a million times more focused and my grades improved. Still my parents are against it and don’t want to let me have a prescription. Please tell me how i can convince them to let me use the drug.

I’m pretty sure once you turn 12, you don’t need your parents consent to receive medical treatment from your doctor.
Keep in mind, your parents can take it away if they see it…

But, how did you try the drug in the first place..?
You know it’s basically speed, right?

Ask them for a trial run and show them how much you improve and when you get taken off them again, go mental in school and get bad grades ect!!

Ask them if you can see a doctor with them to talk about the potential benefits and side effects. Tell them this – you don’t know for sure whether you need it, but the doctor will, and tell them that you are only asking for the visit right now.

You should not have this drug if a doctor doesn’t think it is right for you, but if the doctor does, it may convince them.

just tell a counselor at school or something.there is a screening test they can do to see if you have it.then try showing your parents.it will probably help with some proof.

Tell them how ADHD is a serious disorder where the mesolimbic pathway (or reward pathway) in the brain refuses to release adequate amounts of dopamine, thus chemically giving you a very short attention-span caused by lack of reward (dopamine) needed in the brain to stay focused. Medication such as adderall or focalin (which is a more effective form of concerta, with less side-effects) will chemically force your brain to release more dopamine, treating the disorder.

I only say to do this because from what I’ve seen, most parents that are against it, are so because they are misinformed and don’t believe it is a real disease. If money is a factor, tell them how generics are so much cheaper than brand name medications.
