Have you stopped taking Effexor and experienced the long list of dreaded side effects?

by Admin on November 20, 2009

Three days ago I stopped taking Effexor after slowly reducing the dosage over the past two months from 300mg to 37.5mg. I have been taking Effexor 150mg for about 7 years now, and have been dreading going off this drug as suggested by my doctor, after about a year of debating whether they actually do anything for me.
I am now suffering the long list of side effects. I am so dumb struck as to the complete change in my character in just 24hrs. I have gone from been normal to experiencing, Panic Attacks, unbelievable crazy and scary dreams, nausia, irritability, dizzyness, numbness in my hands, pins and needles, and sever depression.
Does anyone know how long this may last ?
Can you give me some advice to cope with these feelings?
This is so incredibly scary..

I had all the same side effects as you but my doctor put me on something else so it wouldn’t be bad. It will probably last a few weeks it took me ages to get of them because i couldn’t cope with the side affects. Good luck.

yes it is..i was on this and though i did feel better on it..was hell to come off…i dont think your weaning off slow enough for this drug..its potent..i would start again…and take the smallest dose..for a few days till you feel better…what i used to do while i was weaning off was…skip one day then the next day take it..then skip a day and so on…even though i was tapering off the amounts.aswell…then once i knew i wasnt getting too many side affects i would skip 2 days then 3 then 4…but over a good 12 months…even like this it was hard asi got really bad dizziness and felt weird and confused..i had brain zaps..like shocks..horrible…so taper your dosage..and then lower your days to take them…see how you go..but i wouldnt be just never taking them again..while you feel like this…take a dose now…and you will start to feel better again soon
