Was wondering if it was worth the side affects it may cause. Is this something that I will always need to take once I start? I am already taking ambien every night.
Has anyone tried or is taking amitriptyline (elavil) for fibromyalgia?

i took this for fibromyalgia for about 6 mths and it did help me, the only side affect i had was being tired in the morning and i didnt want to get up-i decided to stop taking it because of this-i thought that after awhile i would get abit immune to it and wouldnt be so tired but i didnt- i dont think we are supposed to just stop taking it abruptly but should taper off , but i did just stop taking it and felt nrevous for a week or so and then that went away . it does help you rest good because as you know the fibro keeps us from being able to sleep good.
i was on a low dosage of it just 10 mg but i still cut them in half so it 5 mg i was taking.
Now i have been taking magnesium 3 times the daily req amt and my fibro symptoms improved greatly within 3 mths.
Amitriptyline I take 3pills around 8pm. All this pill does for me it helps you to relax so you can get to sleep. It is also a bit of a pain killer. And it also helps with depression,. I call it the wonder drug. It has really no side effects on me.I also still take a sleeping pill at night. The amitriptyline is a great little pill.I suggest to keep taking itl.
don’t do it!the side effects are not good and long lasting!check out alternatives…ambien also has major side effects!it seems like you are setting your self up for a life of problems!i.e dependence, appetite, libido, mood changes and too much more!check the advise of the professionals at "mayoclinic.com"it is the BEST resource you can have, besides some doctor whose in w/ the pharmaceutical company’s to profit by getting people like you dependent on their medication for the rest of your life!do so more research before you make a decision.
good luck!
The only side effects I know of with it is that it makes you crave carbohydrates. I have found it also makes me feel fatigued the next morning. You should ask your doctor these questions. It does what its supposed to do, it makes us sleep. That’s a side effect and that’s why it is prescribed by doctors. Less medication than many of the actual sleeping pills.
By the way the Mayo Clinic site lists amitriptyline as one of the treatments for fibromyalgia.
I have had fibro for 10 years and have never taken this but have heard of many different medicines like it being prescribed. I have tried many different treatments over the years but what has helped me the most is a substance called D-Ribose. This powder taken in any glass of liquid twice a day has helped me recover energy and avoid muscle fatigue often associated with fibro as you must know.
Please go to my source and read about this suppliment and if you feel inclined give it a try. I have really been helped by taking it and it has no side effects as it is a natural substance that is already in your body. Taking it just helps your cells recover the production of ATP faster and you will feel the difference.
Hope this is helpful for you as it has been for me.
