I seriously want to consider conceiving right now, but as any woman thinking about being a mother would be, I’m really concerned about my meds affecting the conception and the fetus. Has anyone taken an antidepressant medication and an anti-seizure medication during their pregnancy? I only want these people to answer, the ones who’ve actually had the experience. NOT the people who will just say to talk to my doctor… believe me I KNOW THAT already!! All I want is hear from other people’s first hand experiences.

  2. Dilantin no because it can cause serious problems with the baby. in order to have a baby you need to get off of both medications and possibly find an alternative medication that wont cause birth defects. do not try to concieve while on dilantin

  3. well sry, i’ve never taken those meds, i do know for sure they can damage ur baby very much. i actually had very severe depression before i got pregnant, i just never had the money for anti-depressants, i was even suicidal for 2 years. after i got pregnant, i think it might have been my pregnancy hormones that actually stabilized me, i had depression during the first trimester, which is normal, after that was over and i was into my second trimester, i’m very calm.

so i think that if u got off the meds and got pregnant, maybe ur hormones would stabilize enough for u not to need them anymore

EDIT: Zoloft is NOT safe. whether u’re pregnant or not, Zoloft has had an effect of suicide on people, 75% who started taking Zoloft committed or tried to commit suicide, i thought they stopped giving it out! :( i had a friend who almost killed herself from those pills, Prozac is much safer for ppl to take

  4. I took Zoloft through out both of my pregnancies and both children have turned out fine (now 3 and 5). The risk of not being on the medication outweighed being off of it. If you need the medication to survive then you don’t have a choice because that baby can not be born with out you. I even nursed both babies while on zoloft.

  5. Are you taking it for bipolar or epilepsy? Zoloft is fine to take, Dilantin is not, it can cause birth defects, if you are bipolar there are some other meds out there.

Zoloft is the #1 antidepressant for pregnant women, doctors prefer this med over any other.

  6. I’m not sure about the Dilantin, but I was taking Prozac with my second pregnancy, and I am still taking it now during my third pregnancy. I’m pretty sure I remember my doctor saying that Prozac is safer than Zoloft. I’ll be honest, the Zoloft just didn’t work for me either. It worked for a bit, then it seemed to stop suddenly.

  7. I’ve had to take medications during both pregnancies. I have severe anxiety and OCD. I didn’t want the drugs while pregnant, but my first pregnancy I got so bad that the benefits outweighed the risks. I am on Clonazepam, Seroquel, and Luvox. With my second baby, I talked to my doctor before conceiving and she put me on these meds that were the most safe during a pregnancy (as we know nothing is considered safe but this is what I had to do) and this baby is doing great, and my first turned out just fine too. If you really need them, then go with what your doctor says. Good luck.
