Has anyone ever been prescribed an anti-depressant with Provigil?

by Admin on November 26, 2009

I have been taking effexor (75mg) for about 4 months for depression and anxiety. I also take Provigil for Narcolepsy, i have only been on this medication for a week. Has anyone experienced any side effects whilst taking the two together? What side effects has anyone had from either medication?

It doesn’t seem like these 2 drugs are known to have major interactions with each other, but there are a number of drugs that do interact with each of them.

There is a site that lists many of the side effects noted for both prescriptions, what drugs have been known to interact with them, and when it may be helpful to contact a healthcare provider.

Most common side effects associated with Effexor aka venlafaxine include
-headache
-high blood pressure
-vision changes

Most common side effects reported with Provigil aka modafinil include

**btw, I have actually been on Effexor myself. All I remember is that for a while all was well, then I started to get extreme spells of fatigue too. It seems like the 3 of us have fatigue spells. Perhaps double check with your provider that the fatigue is not from a side effect of the Effexor? It’s not common, but possible and may help cut down from unnecessary meds!

Hi. I have been taking effexor for about 3 months now. It was working pretty well and then my fatigue came back. I have extreme spells of fatigue, so my doctor just prescribed me provigil. I was very excited about getting to take it because it helps with daytime fatigue. However, it hasn’t been very helpful thus far. I have been taking it (provigil in addition to my effexor) for about 4 days. I am very disappointed in it. In fact, it seems to have made me more depressed. How is it effecting you? I would really like to know. You can e-mail me.
