I have a family member that because of all the various narcotics and meds she is on seems to be an addict. When I married her son she was depressed and on Welbutrin and Xanax and NuCoFed(a very strong cough syrup and codeine). Over time she has managed to get on more meds and continues to have accidents like falls and has surgery. Now she is on Darvocet N 100 and the cough syrup is a stronger one now and is always with her. She ended up having seizures and when she was put in the hospital for 3 weeks they told her it was to much Welbutrin and the other meds. Well somehow she managed to bust her knee up while in the hospital even though no body can figure out when (she blamed the hospital and they paid for the follow up care) and had surgery to fix it, A year later she "tripped "at a Davids Bridal and broke her wrist and cracked her orbital and other facial bones and they had to pay for all the care and bills. She had surgery to fix her wrist and now has to have surgery again because the plate is causing severe pain.
Darvocet,Xanax,Cough syrups with Codeine and Hydrocodone, and Klonopin should never be mixed but they are all very addictive and I believe she is having the accidents for attention and to hurt herself to stay on pain killers when docs stop giving them to her.
She also wil hit herself ,punch herself, cut herself, pull her hair out and trash her house when she would get angry or throw tantrums. She did go through a divorce when I met her but she refused counseling and that has been 6 years ago.
I have known pill addicts who would have people run over their feet with a car to break bones just to get pain pills when they could not get them anymore.i also read of people doing all kind of crazy things just to hurt themselves to get pills. And I have also known 3 nurses who became addicted to the cough syrups made with opiates in them because the mix of an opiate with pseudophed and dex is very powerful (i was given NuCoPhed when I had pneumonia and I felt like how people described meth made them feel.). I think my mother in law is addicted to the attention all the illness and injury gets her and is addicted to the pills too. She is a very mean, moody and hate filled woman but she is always hurt and I noticed she has horrible insomnia to and has pills for that to. Is she just shopping for pills. She also goes bonkers when she is not the center of attention or if people do not agree with her. I think she needs help but she works for a very busy hospital and when they tried to intervene with the cutting she threw her divorce in every ones face so they dropped it because she has been there for 20 years.

The drugs you are refering to are highly addictive. Her behavior is typical of a drug addict. I suggest Al-Anon for yourself. You will learn how to cope with her erratic behavior and do yourself a big favor. Good luck.
It Sounds more like attention seeking to me. Munchhausen’s Syndrome is where someone makes themselves sick or injures themselves for attention. It could be drug seeking too, but there are easier ways of getting those drugs than hurting yourself like that!
