Does the drug Abilify do anything to the effectiveness of Yaz birth control?

abilify
Ally asked:

I take both and my doctor was vague – thought I’d ask everyone on here.
Abilify is for treatment of Bipolar Disorder, not another form of birth control.

Sorry, im quite vague about Abilify, but two birch control tablets could cause side effects. I suggest you see a different doctor for a more helpful opinion.
Let me know how it goes.
Good luck

No. According to abilify’s prescribing information there is no drug interaction with oral contraceptives. what you have to consider is if Abilify is giving you any GI problems (vomiting diarrhea) that the pill could not be absorbing correctly in your system.

If you are reacting well to the Abilify, then you should be OK. Remember, birth control isn’t 100% effective when taken perfectly every month so you should be using a condom as backup.
