cat may have eaten my antibiotic bactrim?

by Admin on August 22, 2010

I’m missing a pill and I’m thinking it may have fallen on the floor in the kitchen and now I can’t find it. My cat likes to eat weird things and I’m worried she may have eaten it. Would there be signs that she ate it? Would it hurt her? Would she act weird?

It’s after the holidays and I really dont have the money to go to the vet for no reason at all if she hasnt eaten it, but I’ll bring her if I have to.

It would be REALLY odd if she ate it. They are VERY sour. It would not hurt her.

You can probably just call the vet and ask if the cat needs to come in. They wouldn’t charge for that.

According to my pill book about meds for dogs and cats, Bactrim is a sulfa based antibiotic that is used for cats. About the only common side effect mentioned is crystals in the urine of a dehydrated cat..make sure she drinks plenty of water.
Of course depending on the dose, any vomiting, diarrhea, unsteady gait, hyperexcitability would cause you to call the vet, but a single dose that you might find in a corner tomorrow, just keep an eye on her.
