by Admin on November 3, 2009

im taking desyrel (trazedone) for sleep because my depression was interfering with my sleeping patterns, and ever since ive been taking it ive been having these recurring nightmares. is this just a coincidence? or could it be the pills?

I’ve taken trazedone for a few months, and I know of it’s effects personally. It’s designed to help you sleep and remove nightmares and dreams. The thing is, that if you are in therapy, a lot of dreams will come to you. Dreams is another gateway to your psyche. Because your therapist will bring up the past, your subconscious will dredge up old feelings and images that you had before. There is no stopping it, unless you speak to your therapist about increasing the dosage.

I find that if you want to beat depression, keep a journal by your bedside, and when you have a nightmare or dream, write in it, describing the best you can what that dream was about. Include images you saw, what you felt, smelled, sensed, and your emotions. It will take a lot of work, but, hey, nothing’s easy, right?

Depression is beatable: I’m living proof.

Best of luck to you.

yes

I have them and I am on a variety of meds, not sure which one/s is/are causing them. A lot of times I wake up with sweat on the back of my neck and hair.

sorry to hear it, but you gotta do what you gotta do

It could have weird side effects, look it up on wikipedia and see if you can find anything helpful.
Also, some people just react strangely to different things. For example, if I eat too many eggs with runny yolks, I’ll throw up. I’m not allergic to eggs. And I have a friend who has really freaky dreams if he eats watermelon too close to bedtime. He’s not allergic to watermelon either. So it’d be no surprise if you just happened to have a weird reaction, but not nessecarily an allergic reaction.

Yes, In my case, withdrawal from my Effexor causes vivid and crazy dreams and nightmares. I also get terrible night sweats. Never had a problem with trazedone before though.
