Blood Pressure and Benicar?

by Admin on November 28, 2009

I was recently put on Benicar 40mg for blood pressure of 164/100, its been one month now and with exercise and diet along with Benicar 40mg once a day my blood has fallen to as low as 95/50. I feel no side affects of low blood pressure, but at times I feel a little dizzy upon standing. Is my blood pressure to low now?

Low blood pressure, also called hypo-tension, would seem to be something to strive for. However, for many people, low blood pressure can cause symptoms of dizziness and fainting or mean that they have serious heart, endocrine or neurological disorders.
Severely low blood pressure can deprive the brain and other vital organs of oxygen and nutrients, leading to a life-threatening condition called shock.

Although blood pressure varies from person to person, a blood pressure reading of 90 millimetres of mercury or less systolic blood pressure or 60 mm Hg or less diastolic blood pressure is generally considered low blood pressure.
Generally 120/80 is considered normal blood pressure,95/50 is considered low blood pressure, also called hypo-tension.

The causes of low blood pressure can range from dehydration to problems with the way your brain signals your heart to pump blood. It’s important to find out what’s causing your low blood pressure so that it can be properly treated by your doctor.
Take care as always!
