Our first for contact lens. And we don’t have vision insurance. Is there any cheaper way to do the prescription as drugs have generic and brand name differences. Does anyone know how much it costs for a six month supply? I appreciate your answer.

Contact lenses are considered medical devices and so you will need a valid prescription before anyone can supply you with them. This is a legal requirement. The only way to get them would be by having a fitting appointment with an optician first. They will be able to issue you a prescription. You can use this prescription to buy your lenses from anywhere you wish to. There are many websites that are cheaper than the optician’s clinic
No, because everybody’s eyeballs are slightly different sizes and shapes, so you cannot buy contacts "off the shelf".
Different brands of contacts are all made differently, to different standards, with different water content etc. There is no generic type.
