Finally he started taking "Red Yeast Rice" which you can get at any health food store. His cholesterol went down 20 points in one month as did mine. This is a keeper, and it has the same ingredients as Lovastatin without any side effects. Not sure about Lipitor. Other than a few light side affects my cholestrol is in check. 64 LDL and 107 total. My HDL is struggling at 24, but i'm trying to exercise regularly to help with that. I went from near 300 but now I am about 160, which is just about average. I didn't have any side effects either. Prior to that I was on Vytorin. It was a weird med and I got a rash from that one. I stick with the older meds nowadays. It appears they do not do clinical trials very long anymore, which is troubling in itself, thus Vytorin is being dropped like flies by doctors. I wish you luck.
