by Admin on August 23, 2010

I recently had a problem with levaquin made my face numb.
I was on cipro before and had some chest tightness. now my doc put me onit again. said its the best thing for epididymitis.
Anybody have any suggestions. will plain amoxicillin work?

I have been on Cipro (for a UTI) and levaquin (for a bad chest infection) and never had problems with either. Keep an eye on yourself and be careful…no alcohol, etc. Amoxicillin or Tetracycline may work but they may not be strong enough. Numerous other drugs (see the link below) are used to commonly treat this however. If you’re concerned I would speak to your doctor and tell him you think you are allergic to those two drugs and you want something else.

Seems like u are allergic to those antibiotics. U can speak to your doc and ask about amoxicillin, but i doubt he will recommend it. Amoxcillicin belongs to the Penicillin family, and penicillin is highly allergic. Many people are allergic to penicillin. I think if u are allergic to cipro and levaquin u might be allergic to penicillin too.

I had never before had a reaction to an antibiotic, but Levaquin just about killed me. Developed severe tachycardia, heart rhythm abnormalities, severe hypertension (250/140) and of course ended up in the ER. Quinolones (the class of drug that Cipro and Levaquin belong to ) has caused many problems for many people, some of them permanent. Most of the problems involve tendon/ nerve damage. I would definitely get on another antibiotic. Good luck.

Cipro drops my blood pressure so much that all I can do is sit like a zombie for 1/2 to 1 hour after taking it I can’t speak or write

I was given Leviquin for an antibiotic and had to be taken off of it due to muscle and bone pain. the Dr. prescribed another type of antibiotic which wasn’t ammoxicillan but worked great.
