by Admin on December 3, 2009

i have been extremely dizzy lately, like actual vertigo- not just lightheadedness…has anyone taken meclizine and had it actually help them?

Meclizine is just an antihistamine like benadryl or dramamine. It basically makes you sleepy and masks the symptoms. It is probably helpful in the short term, but if you have a condition known as benign paroxysmal positional vertigo (I know its a mouthful) using meclizine can actually make it take longer to recover. If you are actually having vertigo(a sensation that you are spinning when you really aren’t) you do need to see a physician because there are several different possible causes, each of which is treated differently.

Yes i did. It helped me a lot. I was getting dizzy and passing out and this really helped with the dizziness. I am a nurse and i have seen other people benefit fro it also

It can be helpful to many people, but you need to find the reason for your vertigo. Inner ear is the most likely culprit, so you should start by seeing an ENT (ear-nose-throat) specialist. Find a doctor who can determine the cause and treat it, then you won’t need to treat the symptoms.

Good luck…
